GMS User Guide

Introduction

The GMS system allows you to self-manage an image gallery on a website page (or pages). We have set up this software to be as user friendly as possible but it is worth being aware of what is happening in the background to understand how to get the most out of the software.

If you are reading this then the chances are that you have specifically ordered the GMS to appear on your website. In principle, the GMS is a database feature that sits behind your website on the hosting facility and allows you to add up to 30 images to your gallery.

When you upload an image, the GMS automatically optimises the image for the internet (photos straight from a digital camera are frequently far too big for the internet as standard) and also automatically creates a smaller thumbnail image that forms the gallery itself.

When an end user clicks on any of the thumbnails, the website is greyed out and the larger image appears with the options to scroll through the images and eventually close the image, returning to the website.

Additionally, you can add a title to the image which is displayed when the thumbnail is clicked. It is also important to realise that the title of the image is also indexed by search engines … so it is worth applying some thought to titles to ensure that your search engine keywords are included throughout the gallery!

We have prepared this manual in the following order:

  • 1.1 Logging in
  • 1.2 Uploading images
  • 1.3 Deleting images
  • 1.4 Changing thumbnails
